Karen Mills Presents, "Are You the Next Victim? How to Protect Yourself from Elder Abuse in Today's World"

Aronberg Goldgehn partner Karen R. Mills spoke on “Are You the Next Victim? How to Protect Yourself from Elder Abuse in Today’s World” during a session presented by the 18th Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council on May 16, 2024. She was joined by Regina Scarpace of DuPage County Adult Protective Services.
Karen’s presentation was designed to bring awareness to elder abuse and outlined forms of abuse including financial exploitation, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, confinement, neglect and deprivation, and abandonment. Her presentation also included tips on identifying seniors at risk of elder abuse, including those with diminished physical or mental capacity or living alone.
Her co-presenter Regina Scarpace of DuPage County Adult Protective Services gave statistics on the growing incidences of reported elder abuse within DuPage County as well as common fraud schemes targeting the elderly. DuPage County Adult Protective Services maintains a 24-hour hotline and investigates reports of suspected abuse.
Karen concentrates her practice on estate planning, trust and estate administration, probate litigation, special needs planning, asset protection and guardianships for minors and adults with disabilities. Her practice also involves advising clients with respect to taxation, business and asset protection and long-term care planning.
