Employment Law Trending Now – New Illinois Laws Require Electronic Notice Distributions to Remote Workers and Pay Transparency in Job Postings

10.12.23

Two new Illinois laws have made changes to employment processes involving electronic notices and pay transparency and will become effective in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Beginning next year January 1, 2024, employers with employees that do not regularly report to a physical workspace, such as employees who work remotely, will be required to electronically distribute notices required by the:

  • Illinois Minimum Wage Law;
  • Illinois Equal Pay Act of 2003;
  • Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act; and
  • Illinois Child Labor Law.

Electronic distribution can take place via email or by posting on the employer’s website or employee intranet.

Not effective until January 1, 2025, another employment law update requires Illinois employers with 15 or more employees to include pay ranges and benefits in job postings. The law further requires employers to notify current employees of job opportunities within 14 days of making external job postings.
