William L. Niro has 40 years’ experience representing Fortune 500 companies, mid-size and family owned businesses, start-up enterprises and individuals in business transactions and intellectual property matters, including in securing patents, trademarks and copyrights.

He has successfully resolved disputes on behalf of U.S. and international clients through mediation, trial and settlement. He has tried cases throughout the United States in state and federal courts, has argued cases before state and federal appellate courts.

Bill advises clients in brand development and has secured trademark registrations and licenses to protect more than 500 brands in the United States and in 50 countries throughout the world. His clients include fast food companies, machine tool producers, financial planning services, housewares and consumer products manufactures and distributors, automobile parts manufacturers, food products, professional sports, authors and entertainment service providers.

Bill has helped clients secure and license patents for food processing methods, children's toys, metal processing systems, and products in a wide spectrum of technologies. He has advocated and litigated patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, non-competition, unfair business practices and a wide range of commercial and real estate matters.

Bill regularly contributes to continuing legal education publications and frequently lectures at various seminars.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Bill joined Aronberg Goldgehn as a Member in April 2019. Prior to joining the firm he was most recently Of Counsel at Johnson & Bell and a Founding Partner of Niro Law Group, LLC, an intellectual property and business litigation boutique firm.

Upon graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Bill worked in the chemical process industry and government before attending DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. As a member of the Law Review Editorial Board at DePaul, he was responsible for publishing a comprehensive scholarly edition on Illinois law. Bill subsequently received a Master of Laws Degree in Environmental law from George Washington University before spending six years as a law professor.

Bill has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law from 2019-2020 by Illinois Leading Lawyers. He has been named a Super Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law by Illinois Super Lawyers annually since 2009 as well as in 2005 and 2007.

Throughout his legal career, Bill has served on a wide range of Illinois State Bar Association Committees and Section Councils.
