Aronberg Goldgehn partner Karen R. Mills was interviewed by Chicago Lawyer to discuss her experience working with John C. Sciaccotta, as well as their plans for The Chicago Bar Association and The DuPage County Bar Association.

Karen Mills has been a member of The DuPage County Bar Association since 2014 and was installed as president on June 14, 2024. As for John C. Sciaccotta, he has been a member of The Chicago Bar Association since 1988 and was installed as president on June 27, 2024.

Karen and John have worked closely these past few years, and becoming bar presidents in 2024 has given the two the chance to continue working together on upcoming projects at a new level. One of the first mentioned of these projects is the CBA Domestic Violence Summit, scheduled for October 29th. The seminar will focus on how one can notice the signs of abuse early on, prevention tactics, and tools one can use to get out of abusive situations. Karen and John have fully made this a collaborative effort, aiming to involve as many bar associations as possible.

This teamwork extends into their other plans; many leadership programs are in the works in both Chicago, the suburbs, and downstate Illinois, aiming to provide support and guidance to those who are interested in strengthening their skillsets.

There are also plans for hosting meetings that will focus on mental health. A series of wellness seminars, meant to address and help with the stress levels that many attorneys and judges alike deal with, are planned to give back to those in this field that are affected by the weight of legal work.

Within just the first few months of Karen and John’s presidency, the two have begun working towards the goals they’ve set. They remain excited for these new opportunities and are committed to having each bar association succeed internally as well as externally.
