Douglas C. Murray is a corporate lawyer with 20 years of experience serving both middle-market and high-growth emerging companies. He provides strategic corporate advisory to business owners, executive teams, and investors, focusing on helping clients build and maximize business value. His experience encompasses a range of industries, including technology and innovation, industrial and professional services, and venture capital. Doug’s practice covers the full corporate lifecycle. He advises emerging companies and venture capital investors, providing guidance on corporate financings while ensuring they have the right entity structure in place—whether that is a corporation (C or S), partnership, or LLC—to drive innovation and growth. For more established middle-market companies, he provides comprehensive M&A and strategic guidance across various business structures.   • Doug is co-author of “Minority Stakeholder Rights,” Chapter 4 in “Disputes Involving Closely Held Companies 2020 Edition.” Published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Feb. 2020, it is the essential guide for Illinois attorneys who represent closely held corporations, partnerships or LLCs.
 

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Doug joined Aronberg Goldgehn as a Member in July 2018. Previously, he practiced in the corporate practice groups at Gould & Ratner LLP, McGuireWoods LLP and Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP.

Prior to his legal career, Doug was an executive compensation consultant with Deloitte & Touche and Arthur Andersen. As such, he liaised with and managed foreign tax and legal professionals to implement international equity-based compensation plans of multinational corporations. He led studies, performed research and calculations to determine competitive executive compensation practices and plan design. He also designed, researched and evaluated compensation plans for Chapter 11 companies.

While completing his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, Doug was a varsity letterman player in baseball. He also had a career as a professional baseball player with the Houston Astros' and Kansas City Royals’ minor league teams.
