Alan S. Wernick and John C. Sciaccotta to Demonstrate Strategies for Improved Negotiation and Mediation in CBA Workshop

As program faculty in an upcoming Chicago Bar Association (CBA) online workshop, Alan S. Wernick and John C. Sciaccotta will draw from their considerable experience as mediators to guide participants through best practices in conflict resolution concerning negotiation and mediation.

The pre-recorded event, “Advanced Workshop for Improved Negotiation and Mediation Skills: Sophisticated Strategies for In-Person and Virtual Mediation,” will be available for on-demand viewing beginning Friday, April 22. The workshop serves as part of CBA’s Mediation Service comprised of seasoned legal professionals who provide efficient, effective, economical and fair mediations.

Alan and John will join fellow CBA mediators to discuss a range of conflict resolution topics including:

  • Common elements of successful negotiation strategy and the use of Zoom
  • Mediator's strategies for success
  • How to be an effective mediator on Zoom
  • Traits of a successful mediator
  • Handling difficult situations in in-person and virtual mediation
  • Privacy and cybersecurity issues
  • The future of mediation and more

Participants will have a one-month period of time to view the recorded webinar and receive CLE credit. After successfully completing the webinar, participants will receive a certificate of completion enabling them to act as arbitrators in the Circuit Court of Cook County Commercial Section, Mandatory Arbitration Service. Additionally, this program satisfies the training requirement to join the CBA Mediation Program.

Alan is a business transactions attorney and advocate, with a background in accounting and technology, focusing on matters of information technology, privacy/cybersecurity and intellectual property law. His in-depth experience as a seasoned legal counselor and advocate, arbitrator and mediator and as a bridge builder among business, technology and intellectual property communities is well respected by individuals across professional industries.

John has nearly 35 years of trial and litigation experience advocating for clients in complex civil litigation, arbitration, mediation and business counseling matters with a special emphasis on complex civil trial and appellate cases brought in federal and state courts and tribunals throughout the United States.
