Maryam H. Arfeen to Provide Insights on Cannabis Use from the Employer's Point of View in CIPA's 31st Annual Legal Education Seminar

Aronberg Goldghen attorney Maryam H. Arfeen will dive into employers’ rights and obligations regarding cannabis use at the Central Illinois Paralegal Association’s (CIPA) 31st Annual Legal Education Seminar on Friday, September 17 from 9:45 – 10:45 am CT.

In “Clearing the Haze: Employers’ Rights and Obligations Under the Cannabis Regulation and Taxation Act,” Maryam will discuss employer considerations in light of Illinois’ legalization of recreational cannabis that went into effect on January 1, 2020. She will share how this legislation affects:

  • Workplace policies
  • Employee handbooks
  • Federal contracts
  • Workplace drug testing

The CIPA’s 2021 Annual Legal Education Seminar will be held in-person in Bloomington, Illinois with adherence to local and state COVID-19 guidelines. Registration for the event can be found here.

Maryam represents an expansive range of clients in litigation in both state and federal courts. She has represented professionals, companies and their insurers in employment litigation, as well as commercial disputes. Maryam also counsels employers on a wide range of employment matters, such as employment policies and compliance with state and federal employment laws.

Maryam is also a regular contributor to Aronberg Goldgehn's Employment Law newsletter, covering such topics as overtime rules, pay breaks for nursing mothers, employer background checks and new employment laws. Recently, Maryam was appointed as Co-Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Committee and she is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Standing Committee for Racial and Ethnic Minorities in the Law.
