Maryam Arfeen Appointed to Illinois State Bar Association's Newly Formed Special Committee on Racial Inequality

Aronberg Goldgehn Associate Maryam Arfeen has been appointed to Illinois State Bar Association’s newly formed Special Committee on Racial Inequality. This special committee will be asked to provide guidance, coordination, prioritization and accountability of the ISBA structure to advance racial equality. Its purpose will be to identify areas in which the structures of the legal system fail to support and promote equal justice, advance policy and legislative solutions across substantive areas, to examine the structures of the profession and/or reformation both to eliminate barriers to full inclusion, and to create affirmative approaches to and professional responsibility for the advancement of equality, justice and inclusion.

Maryam represents an expansive range of clients in litigation in both state and federal courts. She has represented professionals, companies, and their insurers in commercial litigation, employment litigation, medical malpractice and personal injury litigation. She also has experience with civil rights, whistleblower and contract disputes.

She currently holds several leadership positions with the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. These include:

  • The Chicago Bar Association's Labor and Employment Committee, Vice-Chair (2020-2021)
  • Illinois State Bar Association’s Special Committee on Racial Inequality, Member (2020)
  • Illinois State Bar Association's Inaugural Leadership Academy, Member (2019-2020)
  • Illinois State Bar Association's Labor & Employment Section, Council Member (2020-2021)
  • Illinois State Bar Association, Standing Committee for Racial and Ethnic Minorities in the Law, Member (2019 - )
